holy land and floods
The Char Dham Yatra Visiting the temples at the several major points of origin of India’s holiest river, the Ganges, is called the Char Dham yatra. The four locations are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. In spite of roads going to or very near to the temples, the yatra continues to be an stressful undertaking. It can also be very dangerous, as the current disaster has shown. Badrinath, at about 11,000 feet in between the amazing Nar and Narayana ranges in Chamoli region, is near to where the Alaknanda is born. The temple is essentially at the foot of the extraordinary peak of Nilkantha (6596 m). This is where Lord Shiva used to live till he was convinced by Lord Vishnu to move completely to Kedarnath. Mana, a town near Badrinath, is the last Indian agreement before the Himalayas end and the wide Tibetan level begins. The cave where Vyasa had written the Mahabharata is here........holy land and floods
